Blessed Nykyta – Bishop and Martyr

Today in our church we have the image of our first Bishop in Canada – Blessed Martyr Nykyta Budka.  This year we commemorate the 100th anniversary of his appointment to Canada.  He served his people faithfully under very difficult circumstances.  In poor health he reluctantly left Canada and was later martyred in Ukraine for his faith by the Communists.  This image is in our church today to honour his legacy.

We continue to announce the September visitation to Manitoba of His Beatitude Sviatoslav Shevchuk, Father and head of our church.  Also, in honour of the blessed martyr, Manitoba will host a gathering of all the Ukrainian Catholic bishops from all over the world for their annual Synod meeting, September 10th to September 15th.  Over 40 bishops will visit our province, from September 8th to September 17th, hailing from countries like Ukraine, Brazil, Germany, France, Australia, great Britain etc.

“A Play With Music”, commerorating the 100th Anniversary of the Appointment of Bishop Budka as the First Ukrainian Catholic Bishop in Canada.  Presented by Fr.  Edward Danylo Evanko, will be held at Sts. Vladimir and Olga Cathedral, 109 McGregor St on Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2012 at 7:00 pm.  Admission $5.00 per person.  Presentation will be in the Ukrainian language.
